about

ALL PROCEEDS WILL BE GOING TO THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT FROM THIS RELEASE.

Every single person on this record owes their music career to black lives. Black lives gave us music, and music is inherently political. It feels as though we as musicians should use this art form as a way to give back. From the dawn of time people have been using music as a way to express the things they believe, and we believe Black Lives Matter, and no one deserves to feel as though they aren’t safe from the people who have sworn to serve and protect. That’s what this album is about. I hope you enjoy it.-Tessa Cates

My friend Tessa sparked this idea out of nowhere. From the second I heard the idea I knew what I wanted to do. I have been a part of numerous compilations in the past, most where the money went to good things but there was never a time where I thought that a compilation was needed more. It's not only about raising money for people in need, it's also about raising awareness, and it's also about bringing people together. I can honestly say I hadn't heard of/listened to 3/4 of the artists that are on this compilation before they got in touch with me. And I listen to ALOT of music. So not only have I been spoiled enough to hear these songs and to be a part of something much bigger than me or this little label, but I was able to come together with these people who all stand up for and believe in the same thing. and that to me, is something special.
I don't know where we went so wrong, as a people and as a society as a whole. I wish I could do more. I wish I was a lawyer who could help people, or a politician that could put a stop to this. Sadly I'm just a guy that runs a small label. This is all I know, this is a way that I thought I could help. I hope that people not only listen to these songs, but also donate, but even more important is that they become aware. Together, together we can do this. Together we can overcome. It's a struggle, but I hope that the people that are most hurt by this know that we are their for them, we won't stay silent any longer, we don't sit back and watch any longer. It is not just their fight, it is our fight. Stand Tall, Resist, Rise Above. -K.M
